Security Concerns in the Supply Chain Industry – Here’s How You Can Safeguard Yourself

Supply chain market was the one business that existed offline before the pandemic. Sudden shift to the online landscape made this a vulnerable market. As a result, the customers suddenly were left exposed to hackers. The online security concerns raised are:

  • Identify theft.
  • Spear phishing and Pharming.

How does this happen though?

Customers were required to provide their photograph and their ID proof offline earlier. However, with the switch of supply chain online, customers have to upload their identity details online. Since supply chain is a relatively new market, the industry either isn’t aware of the latest cybersecurity techniques or they are unaware of the importance of these practices. As a result, it’s the identity of the customers that’s put at risk.

That said, since the cases of phishing and identity theft have started increasing, you are supposed to protect yourself from hackers all by yourself as much as you can. Here’s what you can do.

  1. Practice Better Password Habits

It has become more and more important that the password to all your social media accounts are much stronger than before. The better and stronger the password, the better are the chances that hackers won’t be able to hack into your system or your social accounts.

Such passwords have the following traits.

  • They are long – 12 to 15 characters in length.
  • They are random – the password is very random since it contains a mixture of letters in uppercase and lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  1. Keep the Password Exclusive

You can keep your passwords exclusive in the following ways.

  • Using a Different Password for Different Accounts – even if hackers crack one of your passwords, all the accounts will not be hacked. It will limit the damage.
  • Don’t Share the Password – Make sure it’s only you who knows your password.
  • Save the Password in a Better Manner – Don’t write them down in an unprotected file. Use password management apps to do that.
  1. Keep an Eye on Updates

While you can’t change the cybersecurity practices that the company follows, you can certainly rely on the already aware software companies to offer better security. Using such software that is regularly patched from the manufacturer’s end is extremely safe. What you have to do is keep an eye on the updates they release. Whenever an update is released for the public, make sure you install it.

All in all, being an aware person is the best way to discourage hackers from targeting you seems the best option during COVID.
