Learn at Your Own Pace with E-learning: Flexible Data Privacy Compliance

Data protection is not a one person job. That said, data privacy training is very crucial. In every organisation, data protection is everyone’s business, not just the data protection officer or DPO. With more importance now given to privacy certifications (including trust mark certifications), organisations need to look for ways to educate their workforce on the basics of data protection.

To demonstrate accountability and ensure compliance, PDPA trainings and PDPA courses are now being offered. However, training employees can be challenging. This is especially true if you need to train many people. Synchronous courses on the other hand can take a few days and are carried out on a fixed schedule. Since it requires in person attendance, it can disrupt the organisation’s operations if many need to attend.

To resolve this, some HR professionals are using self-paced e-learning for data protection training. Giving employees access to structured modules that they can look into during their free time helps increase flexibility. At the same time, it can help ensure that employees get sufficient and standardised training. The training can also be an integral part of the onboarding process.

E-learning can also make tracking the progress of employees a lot easier. For instance, there is the option to generate reports to see how far employees have gone through a particular module. A digital certificate is given at the end of each course. The certificate obtained at the end of the course will help organisations maintain employee training records. It also helps motivate staff to finish the course.

What Makes the DPEX E-Learning Programme Different?

PDPC’s e-learning programme is focused primarily on the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and its 11 obligations. DPEX’s e-learning programme has an operational perspective to data protection, with a framing that resonates with learners. It is also designed in a way that makes it easy for the learners to relate to the modules.

DPEX offers two tracks when it comes to the modules. There’s the general track for staff to easily learn the basics of data protection in specific ASEAN jurisdictions. The DPO track is more apt for DPOs who want to deepen their capabilities and knowledge. The general track consists of one module. The DPO track offers up to six modules.

The e-learning programme is made up of bite-sized content and comes with interactive videos that you can watch at your spare time. Learners have the option to pause the videos and return to the course at a later time. Within the module’s access period, learners have the freedom to replay the content as many times as they want.

They also have a discussion board where they can engage with fellow participants and expert trainers. They can also start discussions and post questions in the discussion board.

A digital certificate of participation will be awarded to everyone who can complete the course. The e-learning will be officially launched by May of 2022. By then the pricing packages will also be available.
